DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACY PRACTICE

The School of Pharmacy at Husson University in Bangor, Maine invites applicants for two 12-month positions in the Department of Pharmacy Practice.  Responsibilities include developing, coordinating and delivering didactic education; developing and maintaining innovative clinical practice sites; conducting scholarly activity in an area of expertise; and engaging in service to the college, and community. Applicants from multiple clinical specialties will be considered.

Candidates with expertise in adult or pediatric internal medicine and acute care, community practice, ambulatory care, cardiology, hematology/oncology, critical care, and emergency medicine are encouraged to apply. Candidates must possess PharmD or other terminal pharmacy degree; minimum of two years of professional pharmacy practice experience; prior academic experience preferred; residency, fellowship or similar professional experience; eligible for Maine pharmacist licensure.

The School of Pharmacy will provide an innovative curriculum design, collaborative partnerships with regional healthcare practices and research entities, and joint venture opportunities with Canadian institutions are just some of the components envisioned for this new professional program.

DIRECTOR OF PHARMACY

This position is responsible for providing leadership for Pharmacy programs and maintaining an integrated model of pharmaceutical care via services, education and research. The Director assures that all pharmacy services are in compliance with The Joint Commission, and federal and state regulations. The primary job responsibilities include: Medication Use Management, Quality Outcomes and Performance Improvement, Medication Safety, Drug Utilization Management, Informatics and Technology, Strategic Planning, Financial Management, Human Resources Management, and Research and Education. Leads and supports MaineHealth clinical and administrative integration initiatives.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1. Must be a registered Pharmacist, or eligible for licensure in the State of Maine.

2. An advanced degree ( PharmD, MBA, MHA, MPH, or MS) is required.

3. Ten years of experience in a large hospital pharmacy with at least 5 years as a Director of Pharmacy in a similar setting.

4. Completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy residency, particularly administrative residency, is preferred.

5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other members of the health care team, health system, educational and community leaders.

6. Evidence of excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

7. Evidence of leadership in pharmacy practice.

8. Evidence of expertise and knowledge of pharmacy education and training, as well as research.

9. Experience leading evidence based decisions about drug use, controlling pharmaceutical expenses while maximizing patient benefit.

CLINICAL PHARMACY SPECIALIST - NEPHROLOGY/TRANSPLANTATION

The Nephrology/Transplant Clinical Pharmacy Specialist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) as well as solid organ transplant patients including drug distribution support, clinical intervention, investigational drug studies, research, teaching and pharmacy representation in Maine Medical Center committees. Specific activities include:

1. Provide drug dosing information for patients on hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).

2. Provide patient discharge education for immunosuppressive drug therapy

3. Provide support for initiatives developed by the Transplant Quality Improvement Committee and the Dialysis Quality Improvement Committee

4. Provide education and support for the Transplant Nursing Certification Program

5. Contribute to Nephrology Journal Club

6. Participate and contribute to Multidisciplinary Patient Care Rounds

7. Provide therapeutic drug monitoring services for immunosuppressive therapy

8. Provide drug therapy-related education to dialysis and transplant team members.

9. Provide consultative services to hospital committees when nephrology pharmacotherapy issues are discussed.

10. Participate in and contribute to nephrology research activities

CLINICAL PHARMACIST - NUTRITION SUPPORT SERVICE

The Nutritional Support Service (NSS) is a consult service that provides nutritional assessment and recommendations for nutritional management ofhospitalized patients requiring specialized parenteral or enteral nutrition support.

The service is comprised of a physician medical director, a part-time clinical pharmacist, and a clinical dietitian. The pharmacist and dietitian coordinate the provision of all parenteral nutrition to adult patients, pediatric, and neonatal patients throughout the hospital. The primary goals of the NSS are to maximize patient benefit from parenteral or enteral nutrition support, minimize potential complications from these therapies, and to insure the cost-effective application of nutrition therapy within the hospital.

The Nutrition Support Service ( NSS ) Pharmacist Corrdinator will, in collaboration with other members of the Nutrition Support Service, be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical approaches to foster the nutrition support of patients who exhibit potential or actual nutritional deficiencies. He/She will promote and continue to monitor for the optimal use of nutrition for patients receiving Total Parenteral Nutrition ( TPN ), enteral nutrition, and other patients requiring nutrition support consultation. The NSS clinical pharmacist will also assess the pharmacologic, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic parameters of patients followed by the NSS to promote cost-effective drug therapy. The NSS pharmacist will evaluate for any drug-nutrient interactions.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

2. Graduate of an ACCP accredited school/college of pharmacy is required.

3. Eligible or currently licensed in the State of Maine.

4. Work experience as a patient care pharmacist involved in patient monitoring and drug therapy review is preferred.

5. Experience in an organized healthcare setting such as a hospital or home infusion pharmacy is preferred.

6. Analytical skills necessary to identify and resolve problems related to drug therapy.

7. Experience in the monitoring and consultation on drug therapy in patients of all age groups.

PHARMACIST INFORMATICS COORDINATOR

Pharmacist with informatics expertise  will be responsible for pharmacy systems while working in collaboration with the Pharmacy IS Administrator. Specializes in the medication use continuum and leverages the use of technology and knowledge of human factors limitations to optimize care delivery processes. Utilizes technology and system design for the purposes of improving medication safety. Current medication management systems at Maine Medical Center include but are not limited to: SCM ®, WORx®, McKesson Robot, Pyxis®, Veriscan® and Hospira smart pumps. Working knowledge and experience with bar code medication management is highly preferred.  Provides continuous instruction and training to staff and MMC employees on pharmacy systems functions. Serves as liaison between Pharmacy staff, Information Systems, Revenue stream/Patient Accounts, and other departments as needed.  Oversees pharmacy equipment and is responsible for troubleshooting issues with hardware and software.
