PHARMACY TECHNICIAN - Part Time

Blue Hill Memorial Hospital has an opening for a part-time Pharmacy Technician.

At Blue Hill Memorial Hospital the Pharmacy Technician works collaboratively with other pharmacy and hospital staff to provide pharmaceutical services in a clean, neat and safe environment to provide patient focused care. This important position is responsible for supporting the pharmacist in the performance of their responsibilities in order to provide pharmaceutical services. The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications, and provides comprehensive technical support and supportive services to customers and medical staff. Technicians achieve national certification within one year of employment and have the opportunity to work and specialize in various areas of the pharmacy.

Minimum education & experience: Associates degree in health or science field preferred or the equivalent in education and experience are required. Previous pharmacy (retail or hospital) work experience desired. CPhT certification required within one year or current CPhT certification desired. Ideal candidate has excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills. Attention to detail, ability to handle pressure situations, knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word are required.

Pharmacy Operations Manager

The Pharmacy Operations Manager provides direction and leadership for Pharmacy operations, EMMC Pharmacy Outreach Service and Remote Order Verification Service. Reports to the Director of Pharmacy and works collaboratively with the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Clinical Manager to develop, implement and maintain progressive and best practice health system pharmacy services. Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses and other health-care professionals. Participates in Eastern Maine Healthcare System pharmacy related committees, task forces and system meetings. Manages Pharmacy financial operations, personnel, quality, formulary management, distribution systems, technology systems and all related professional aspects of current hospital pharmacy practice and systems.

Must have demonstrated skills in making decisions with visionary and independent judgment and be able to work effectively with a variety of board, managerial and professional personnel. Must have effective budgeting, project development and project implementation skills. Must have excellent personnel supervisory skills. Must possess effective financial management skills relevant to the practice of hospital pharmacy.

Position Requirements: BS in Pharmacy or PharmD AND one of the following: MS in Pharmacy Administration, MBA, MHA, MPH, or Health System Pharmacy Practice Residency. At least five years clinical experience in hospital pharmacy required. At least three years managerial/supervisory experience required. Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification preferred. Pharmacist licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Maine required.

Clinical Pharmacist

Mercy seeks an experienced Clinical Pharmacist to develop clinical programs and provide guidance for advanced Pharmacy students. This benefit eligible position is available for up to 32 hours per week.

Requirements:

  • Licensure obtained through a Bachelor of Science Degree with ten years of hospital experience or a Doctorate of Pharmacy. Successful accomplishment of State of Maine Board Examination is required.
  • Completion of a hospital residency program is preferred.
  • Must be highly accountable for technical expertise as performance directly affects patient care.
  • Incumbent has access to highly confidential patient information. Must be able to operate independently and autonomously throughout scope of duties with minimal guidance from the Director Pharmacy Services.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills as the incumbent deals with physicians, staff, fellow employees, and students on a daily basis. Incumbent must also deal with outside agencies and vendors.
  • Must have judgment and initiative to make accurate and timely decisions as to appropriateness of prescriptions and communicate as appropriate, while balancing deadlines and changing workloads.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Clinical Pharmacist formulates and dispenses all prescribed pharmaceuticals for prenatal through geriatric patients. Additionally, the incumbent provides guidance and work verification to Pharmacy Technicians. The incumbent performs all duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

Clinical Pharmacist Night Shift

Permanently assigned to off-shift (evenings - 2ND Shift or nights - 3RD Shift) and may include working one or both days on weekends.

Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager, Operations, or their designee, the Clinical Pharmacist reviews drug therapy, formulates recommendations based on current literature and established standards of practice, directly supervises supportive personnel serves as a resource for drug information; participates and directly supervises the preparation and distribution of medications, and serves as a member of the healthcare team with the prescriber and direct caregiver.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

2. Graduate of an ACCP accredited school/college of pharmacy is required.

3. Eligible or currently licensed in the State of Maine.

4. Work experience as a patient care pharmacist involved in patient monitoring and drug therapy review is preferred.
