Maine Society of Health-System Pharmacists

INVITES YOU TO JOIN US ON

September 18 & 19, 2000 at Sebasco Harbor Resort

for two days of CE’s, golfing and relaxation.

MSHP is trying out a new location for our fall conference. We bring you five credits of CE per day plus a beautiful and relaxing setting on the shore of Sebasco Estates, Maine (located south of Bath Maine). The resort features golfing and a beautiful shore front. Casual dress and attitude appreciated. The resort requests that you submit your request for rooms to them in writing or through their website at www.sebasco.com. Be sure to mention that you are part of the MSHP group in the remarks section to get your group discount. They feature a wide range of accommodation for you if you plan to stay.

Our program is created with a wide range of interests in mind. We will start out 9:00 A.M. Monday with an update new treatment modalities & technology for Diabetes Care. We will then feature Physician Order Entry system technology/med errors presentation from our colleges at Brigham & Women’s. We may have time to squeeze in some new Biotech developments, but that has not been finalized yet. Our program ends at 4:00 P.M.

On Tuesday we’ve chosen the topics with technicians in mind. At 9:00 A.M. we start the day with a basic genomics primer from The Institute of Genomics Research, a non-profit group dedicated to educating scientists on this new emerging field. We continue the day with a presentations on law and ethics and medication errors with Richard Fradette, RPh, J.D.,MPH. Finally, our own chemotherapy expert, Steve D’Amatto finishes the day with some wise words about chemotherapy advances, admixture and how combination therapy works.

Is life getting a little busy lately? We’ve designed this conference for you. Perhaps you’d enjoy a nice walk around those putting greens with a few fine friends and a little white ball. Maybe you would prefer the gentle lapping of waves and the call of the sea gulls attracts you to the shore for a walk among the rocks. LET US KNOW SOON if you plan to attend. Send in the registration form below to Sandra Kostron our registrar. Mail it soon to get the best rates. If you plan to stay at the lodge, you must let them know by August 18th. Their form is on the back of the poster for the meeting that is enclosed. Check out their web site as an alternate place to book a room. Remember, you must have your form in by September 9th to qualify for the advance rates for the conference.

MSHP Technician Members!!

We’ve designed Tuesday’s topics with your needs in mind. We start the day out with the basics of the new genomics science that you keep hearing about on the news. Just what is discovering the DNA genetic code going to mean for all of us? Next we’ve a law credit and discussion about medication errors designed for your interests. Richard Fradette will begin discussing dispensing errors and go on to talk about maintaining patient confidence. Lastly, based on the technician feedback, we have included a chemotherapy primer. Steve D"Amato will present two hours on how we fight cancer. He’ll target your questions on how to admix and why we mix up different groups of chemotherapy to administer together. Please come both days, I know you will enjoy the presentations. Tell a friend about this and invite them to join you and become a member of MSHP.
